EDITORIAL ILLUSTRATION

The goal of this project was to create a cover for a book called 'Das Gedankenkarussell' in which a philosopher tells about his profession and how dealing with his own thoughts became his full time job. The german term 'Gedankenkarussell' has a negative connotation to it and is commonly used as a slang term to express an unhealthy situation in which the thinker is unable to stick to one thought going around in circles and never come to a conclusion. The author describes how he enjoys his rides in the in the 'thought carousel" and doesn't feel trapped in it, like many others.
I started out with a rough sketch, that was expanded to a full cover design. In the next step the values and rendering of the illustration were defined to which several different color versions were tried out in the last step via a color gradient map.
